We are the world.

Remember when you were a young child, wild and free? I do. I miss that little girl with her curls and chubby cheeks and her vivid imagination that flowed freely. Not a care in the world and nothing but a free spirit wanting to take on the world with all of her might.

Life has a way of getting us all twisted up and we lose that innocent spirit that once inhabited us as a child. Yesterday as I was driving home, I saw a flock of birds flying right above the tree line on the side of the road, headed the same direction as me. In that moment, the fear, darkness, illness, struggles, worry, and concerns of this world momentarily lifted off of my shoulders and I became that wild and free young girl again. I saw beauty and simplicity and my heart was full. I was at total peace with myself and the world. It reminded me that we can make a conscious choice to view the world through the lens of our inner child.

We live in a world that constantly barrages us with messages that we should be afraid. Fear the man or woman who is different from you. Fear the future and who will be elected as our next president. Fear this virus, fear the food you eat, fear terrorists. Fear, fear, fear. Live it. Breathe it. Try to sleep with it looming over your head.

Reality is fear is detrimental to our mental and physical health. Fear causes stress. Stress causes anxiety. All of this together leads us to being one breath away from a major meltdown of epic proportions. And fear slowly kills us. It kills our health. It kills our joy. It destroys our ability to live in the moment and enjoy our lives.

And yet, as a society, we’ve bought into the fear hook, line and sinker. And who is driving this fear? The media. We take what they report to us as absolute truth and don’t even think to question or doubt what we are hearing. If we are faithful Fox News watchers, we are obviously conservative Republicans. If we watch MSNBC, we are liberal democrats. The medias main agenda is to push politics. To keep us captive in fear. To lead us like sheep to the slaughter. And we comply. We give no push back. We fall for it like brainless robots. It’s infuriating. And very sad.

So how do we take back control of our own lives and minds and not allow fear to dominate us anymore? For me there is only one answer; faith. My faith must be bigger than my fears. I must consciously choose my thoughts and what I dwell on. I must choose to look for the good in the world, not the bad. The bad is already being shoved down my throat 24 hours a day.

I honestly believe there is far more good in the world than bad. I have to, otherwise I lose hope. Without hope, I become depressed. When I get depressed, I become complacent. When I’m complacent, I’m not being the world changer that God created me to be. This is unacceptable.

We must make a stand TOGETHER and refuse to be misled and brain washed by the media. We must rise up and hold tight to our hope that mankind is inherently good. We must join forces and overcome the negativity, the trickery, the tom foolery.

I for one want joy in my life. I want peace. I want to be a free-thinker and see the world through the eyes of Jesus, not the fallen man. I want to be filled with hope for a bright future with wonderful days ahead of me.

So how do I do this? Is it even possible to think tomorrow will be good and the day after and the day after that? YES, it is possible! It is doable. We can achieve this together.

For starters, go out of your way to be nice to somebody. Do whatever it takes each and every day to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. A hand written note to let them know you are thinking of them. A smile and a kind word. Spreading good news by telling your loved ones something good that happened to you today or that you saw. By making a conscious decision to help others have a brighter day, we in turn will have a brighter day. There is nothing more rewarding or uplifting than brightening someone else’s day.

Secondly, pause to enjoy the beauty of the simple things in life, like a butterfly, or a rainbow, or a bird making a nest. Stop and PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN and have a real and meaningful conversation with your child, your spouse, your loved one, your co-worker, your friend. Try to learn something new about them and their lives. Talk about things that matter. Their hope, their dreams, their desires, how they want to change the world. BE REAL, not shallow.

Finally, choose what you feed your mind and soul. Remember the old saying, you are what you eat? Well the same philosophy applies with our minds. We become what we think about, what we dwell upon. So make a choice today about what will consume your thoughts. Will you dwell on God’s word, or will you dwell on what the news anchor tells you? Will you think about forgiving someone who has hurt you, or will you dwell on what they said or did that caused you so much pain? You choose your thoughts. You take your thoughts captive and refuse to dwell on things that stir up fear inside of you. Feed and nourish your mind with the positive, the good, the truth.

Always remember, we are the world. We are the children. We are the ones that make a brighter day so let’s start living!
